The Virginia Retirement System is investing the hard-earned pay of Virginians to fund genocide and endless foreign wars. We’re organizing to stop it - join us in demanding that the Virginia Retirement System divest from the companies fueling Genocide in Gaza!

  • We are a coalition of Virginia residents, workers, and organizations mobilizing to demand that the Virginia Retirement System divest any direct holdings in the weapons manufacturers and shipping companies that are facilitating the genocide of the Palestinian people. These companies include Lockheed Martin, Boeing, RTX, and Maersk.

  • The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is the state agency that administers pension plans, retirement savings plans, and other benefits of the state and local public employees in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

    There are 840 state employers enrolled in the system, including counties, school districts, colleges, law enforcement agencies, and state agencies. There are more than 803,000 public employees enrolled in the VRS.

    The VRS manages $1.4 billion in assets. Of this amount, VRS has invested over 20% (approximately $300 million) in Maersk and major arms manufacturing companies which participate in the genocide against Palestinians.

  • The VRS claims to be in interest of the people of Virginia, but in reality a small group of decision makers force all VA public employees and taxpayers to fund the genocide and mass destruction of Palestinians against their will or input.

    The VRS is taking the hard-earned money of hundreds of thousands of public employees in Virginia and investing it in companies that profit off death and destruction.

    All people deserve to have assurance that their retirement investments are not only secure, but also aligned with their values in opposition to war and genocide including the US-backed genocide in Gaza which has killed over 60,000 Palestinians.

    1. Divest any direct holdings in weapons manufacturers and shipping companies that facilitate the genocide of the Palestinian people.

    2. Revise the VRS investment policy to ensure that it does not invest in any weapons manufacturer or companies that ship weapons. Ensure that sufficient and enforcable oversight is implemented so that the Virginia Retirement System will not be able to rescind this.
